Set The Tone For 2020

A start of a new year and a new decade. Wow.

Let's talk about setting the tone for the year, specifically around your wardrobe.

A new year usually means new resolutions or intentions. Maybe a new exercise routine or eating habits. Or maybe a house/closet purge. I found out early in life that I tend not to keep resolutions for long. I'm a Rebel and don't like being told what to do - by myself or others - so resolutions don't work for me. Last year I tried setting a word for the year, both personally and professionally. It didn't feel restrictive or like I was telling myself what to do, therefore it was effective. I was able to make decisions all year long using these words as an anchor.

Why am I telling you this? I want to encourage you to find the thing that sets the tone for your year. Find what works for you. It might take some trial and error, but you will find it if you approach it with intention. ALSO, if your intention is to get your closet in order and to be re-invigorated by your wardrobe, this is a great time to start that process and I can help.

How do you approach your wardrobe?

I'm a believer in approaching your wardrobe with intention. Design it just for you.

Buying more clothing or doing a closet cleanse may help short term, but if you buy and cleanse with purpose it will have greater effectiveness.

As a start, I encourage you to think about:

  • What colours you feel the best in

  • What silhouettes make you feel balanced

  • What style(s) makes you feel like you could walk into any room and command it

  • What you spend your time doing

This is a great way to figure out how to approach your wardrobe. Use these questions to find your style personality and what gets you fired up. It is possible to have a wardrobe you love and can take anything out of and feel amazing in. It takes some work, but it's worth it.

If you need some help, hiring a personal stylist like myself is a great option. I work with clients both in person and virtually. If that's a little out of the budget, but you are motivated, another great options is doing a group session. On January 22, 2020 I will be starting a five week webinar series where I give you the teaching and tools, as well as some accountability, to work through your closet. This is a great option to start this year, and decade, feeling amazing in the clothes you wear. It doesn't mean you must go out and buy a bunch of clothes, it means you get to discover what you already have and wear it!

If you try it on your own, use the questions above to get started. It will take you a long way! I can't wait to see all the fabulous outfits you come up with based on what you already own!

Happy Styling!
